PORTFOLIO

The following pieces represent both images that I've acquired and processed at my studio in Mill Valley, CA, as well as those that were originally imaged from the dark skies of the New Mexico desert in the Southwestern U.S.

Firstly, some definitions.  LRGB = Luminance, Red, Green and Blue.  These filters, known as broadband filters, focus on capturing the light in the RGB spectrum as well as Luminance (for highlights).  SHO stands for Sulfur - Hydrogen - Oxygen.  Again, these are filters, but they are known as narrowband filters, as they capture a narrower portion of the spectrum.  While they are great for blocking out light pollution in heavily populated cities, the acquisition process requires longer exposures.  The SHO order of assignment (Sulfur assigned to Red, Hydrogen assigned to Green and Oxygen assigned to Blue channels) is also known as the Hubble palette.  There is a ton of detail out there in cyber space regarding this topic, but suffice it to say that this assignment is just a way of interpreting the images...many differing combinations can be applied in order to get more pleasing effects, which is what I like to do.  See some examples below and let me know what you think!
